BMW Motorbike Wins GS Trophy
The International BMW GS Trophy title has been won by the Great Britain team following a three-way battle to the finish line.
The riders rode 2,000km over three South African countries for seven days and had to complete a number of challenges and tests along the way.
Alastair Allan, Mark Kinnard, and Kevin Hammond made up the winning team riding BMW F 800 GS adventure-sports bikes across South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.
The competition involved ten teams in total from all over the world which one day consisted of a 30km ride across deep sand in temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius.
Other challenges involved the riders struggling through gravel with steep hill climbs, obstacle courses, river crossings, tractor pulls, and slow speed races.
At the end of each day the riders endured the cold African nights while camping outside sleeping under the stars.
The South African team came in a close second place with a score of 151, one point behind the UK’s 152, while the Scandinavian team took third place in the race with 149 points.
Canada followed in fourth, followed by the USA, Alps, Spain, Germany, Italy, and in tenth place was Japan.
